Color
A
colorless diamond reflects all colors of light. But a colorless diamond is very
rare; most diamonds contain slight traces of yellow, brown, or gray, which
limits the spectra of light that is reflected. So the less color present, the
more reflected light, and the better the color grade.
Grading Color from A - Z
Diamonds are graded on a
letter scale from D to Z: D, E, and F
diamonds have no color detectable to the unaided eye; those graded G, H,
I, or J are nearly colorless, but a trained gemologist can detect
a slight yellow cast. K through Z colored diamonds have yellow or
gray color visible to the unaided eye.
The figure below illustrates
the presence of color in diamonds from D to Z color.
Amir Agha Diamond Color
Amir
Agha does not carry diamonds rated lower than H. Those diamonds have
color that is detectable even to the untrained eye. Those rated K to M
have a faint color, while any diamond graded from N through Z
carries a noticeable yellow tint. All diamonds offered by Amir Agha are
colorless to near colorless and fall within the D-H range.
What
Color Grade is the Best ?
· For the purist,
look for a colorless diamond with a grade of D-F and a fluorescence
rating of none, faint, or slight.
· For an
excellent value in a diamond with no noticeable color to the unaided eye, look
for a near-colorless grade of G-I, and a fluorescence grade of medium or
strong blue.
· Or, if you'd
rather not compromise on color but would like to stay on budget, choose a
diamond with a good cut and SI1–SI2 clarity and consider going with a very
strong fluorescence. It will still be beautiful to the unaided eye and you may
prefer the unique effect of a strong fluorescence.
The table below compares the
prices of diamonds with the same clarity grade (VS1) and carat weight, but
varying color grades.
